Thank you for your interest in Casa Punta Banco. Casa Punta Banco is a rare find, and we love sharing it with others. Let me tell you a little bit about ourselves and our adventure in finding Casa Punta Banco.
A number of years ago my husband and I (both psychologists & professors) were doing some training in CA on life coaching. During this training we were asked to first privately write and then share our dreams for the future. To our surprise, my husband and I had similar dreams . . . a place on the ocean that we could live, swim, ride horses (the horses are my thing), and enjoy the beauty and tranquility with our friends and clients. We wanted our place to double as a retreat center where we could bring people . . . a place whose beauty was naturally healing and welcoming to the soul and spirit.
When we returned home and we shared our future dreams with our friends and decided to start a search that we called “The Golden Adventure”. The idea was to find the place that would fulfill our dreams and begin to get to set some roots between then and a move. We knew we wanted warm and water. My husband and I and our infant daughter began traveling to the warm areas of the US, Mexico, and several Caribbean Islands. We also began a reading campaign about international living. In 1986, Costa Rica was considered the No 1 place in the world to retire. We planned a 10 day trip over our spring break, traveling to both coasts and fell in love with Costa Rica. Returning home, we decided to return the following summer when we were both free of our teaching positions. We placed an ad in two Costa Rica papers asking for faxes of oceanfront property for sale. We received about 60 responses and planned a month long trip traveling around the country with our daughter and our Dutch nanny. If was an adventure never to be forgotten!
We met the owner of our now property in Golfito. He was a tall, thin Texan who spoke a little Spanish; more than any of us. The drive from Golfito to Punta Banco was breathtaking. We forded several rivers (there are bridges now, not to worry), parked our guides car at the end of the road that only horses primarily traveled at that time and proceeded up the beach. We knew our daughter would love all the hermit crabs and sand crabs that we saw on the stunning beach. We picked wild walnuts on our way up the beach and saw a band of squirrel monkeys in the trees. The house seemed large and open with breathtaking views from both floors. We didn’t notice how little it had been card for. The openness and spaciousness of the house surrounded by nothing but nature, beauty and views of the ocean and the Osa peninsula. We walked a short distance behind the house to see the 30 ft waterfall and stood there speechless at the idea of “having it all”. We continued up the mountain for yet more. We saw a morpho butterfly lop on by, and we saw our second type of monkey, the white face. We sampled bananas, and several fruits we had never tried before, tree grapes, prickly pear and cashew. If was difficult to contain our excitement.
We left Punta Banco and continued our trip around the country. We saw many beautiful properties, many easier to get to and with more amenities like electricity, but we could not forget the overwhelming natural beauty of Punta Banco. We called the owner and asked “could we go back and spend 5 days. He said sure. This time we noticed the lack of care and deterioration even though the house was only 6 years old. The second floor was full of bats, holes in the floor, cockroaches everywhere. We piled clothes on the bed when it rained to keep dry. The roof leaked everywhere. We could not be dissuaded. We loved it! Before we left Cost Rica to return home to Michigan we had signed a purchase agreement and planned to have the house remodeled and the bats and roaches removed.
The next eight years we spent holidays and sometimes a week or two during the summer visiting Casa Punta Banco. In 1997 we began cutting back on our practices, sold our home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and moved to our Lake Michigan log cottage near Charlevoix, Michigan. During those 2 years, we spend 3 month periods at Casa Punta Banco home schooling our daughter. We wanted to be sure we could live in a foreign country on a longer term basis. We still loved it and decided to make Costa Rica our home moving to a small town, Escazu within the central valley so our daughter could attend school.
We have traveled extensively through Costa Rica and more and more know how lucky we are to have found this incredible place. We hope you will decide to spend your holiday at our Paradise home.

My family and I had a great time in your home Casa Punta Banco. You did not exaggerate when you told me, this was one of the most beautiful places in the world. We really loved your home, the trails, waterfalls, and beach. Everyday was a beautiful adventure. When we arrived the floral arrangements were probably some of the finest I have ever seen. On your property we visited w/ the monkeys, both white faces and squirrel, and heard the howlers. We saw the macaws everyday, and the toucans occasionally; the last day six toucans said goodbye to us. We especially enjoyed the second floor porch view; on 3 maybe 4 days we watched the whales diving. We found the poison frogs, butterflies, and moths. Flora was great; she prepared amazing diners every night for us. She cleaned and also did some wash for us. Each day when she arrived, Flora walked thru the orchard, and brought fruit/spices, etc. to enhance our diners. The diners were truly restaurant quality. One day we hiked to the top of the property, really quite a challenge. Both villages, Pavones and Punta Banco, the people were great and we did almost every activity offered: from surfing to fishing. One night, one of the local Ticos even called upon us at 8:00 PM to join them in the release of the sea turtles. I will refer people to you to rent your home. Thank you for a great time, Norman Roth

The rainforest has the highest concentration of life and habitat on the planet. Species of animals include ocelots, sloths, cacomistle, kinkajou, olingo, porcupine, skunk, rabbit, agoritic, tayia, grison, deer, otter, squirrels, raccoons, opossum, anteaters, armadillos, wild boars, lizards, colorful dart frogs, toads, iguana, paca, weasels, fox, and peccary just to start the list. You can see everything at Casa Punta Banco that Costa Rica has to offer other than the large cats and macaws that can only be seen across the bay at Corcovado (local fishermen can take you across for the day).
